TintMyUtv.com Tint Kit Installation Instructions
Welcome!
Thanks for choosing TintMyUtv.com for your UTV window tint kit. Follow these steps for a smooth, professional-looking install. Most customers finish in under 2 hours.
NOTE: Just plain water is used to hold the tint to a peel board (large piece of glass) during cutting and packing. It is normal to have "wet" tint when it arrives. If it's winter, please wait for the tint to come to room temperature before unrolling.
What You’ll Need
-
Squeegee
-
Hard card or gasket tool (optional, but helpful)
-
Quart spray bottle filled with water + a few drops (up to a tablespoon) of baby shampoo (no harsh soaps)
- More soap = film moves easier, but longer dry time. Less soap = film sticks more, but cures faster.
-
Several clean, lint-free microfiber towel
-
Clean, draft-free workspace (garage recommended)
-
Straight razor blade, for cleaning windows
-
Plastic "SOS" pad (optional, but helpful)
Step 1: Prep Your Workspace & Windows
-
Park Indoors: Avoid wind, and dust, during install.
-
Clean Thoroughly: Wash and dry windows. Remove ALL dirt, dust, and grease.
Tip: Use your soapy water mix and a straight razor blade. If you have a plastic SOS pad, you can use that to scrub the glass too. Do not use glass cleaner. Glass cleaner has chemicals that dissolve adhesives. Once the tint is installed using glass cleaner on the non-adhesive side is fine. -
Double-Check: Any leftover debris can cause bubbles or poor adhesion.
-
Clean Surrounding Areas: You don't want dust/debris from seals/gaskets to get on the film.
-
Clean! Clean! Clean! The trick to a great install is cleaning!
Step 2: Wet Application Solution
-
Fill your spray bottle with clean water and add your soap. You're going to use much more of this than you think. On a two door machine, one quart might be enough, but it's difficult to use too much soapy water.
-
Shake gently.
Step 3: Test Fit the Tint
-
Hold each tint piece up to its matching window to confirm fit and orientation. When you're standing OUTSIDE the machine, hold the piece of tint up. To confirm it's the correct one, make sure the clear liner is facing you, away from the machine. The non-adhesive side of the tint would be against the OUTSIDE of the glass. Now, the tint obviously gets installed with the adhesive side on the interior of the glass, but when you orient the tint with the film facing out, on the outside of the machine, the adhesive side will be in the correct orientation to install on the inside of the glass.
-
Kits are precision-cut, but confirm before peeling the liner.
Step 4: Apply the Tint
-
Peel Liner: Carefully peel the clear liner from the tint film.
Handle the adhesive side gently—avoid touching the adhesive side of the film. -
Spray Adhesive Side: Liberally spray the adhesive side of the tint with your solution.
-
Spray Window Surface: Spray the window glass as well.
-
Position Tint: Place the wet tint onto the wet window. Slide gently into place.
-
Smooth Out: Use your squeegee to press the tint flat, pushing out water and air bubbles from the center outward.
-
Edge Work: Use a hard card for tight edges/seals if needed.
Step 5: Final Touches
-
Check for Bubbles: Re-squeegee any areas with trapped water or air. Small bubbles are normal. It may take up to 5 days before they dissipate. Having the machine outside in the sun, or with some heat source will speed this up.
-
Dry Time: Avoid rolling down windows or direct washing for 48 hours, minimum. Longer if it's humid.
-
Inspect: After 24–48 hours, minor haziness or small bubbles will disappear as the film cures.
Tips & Troubleshooting
-
Cold Weather? Install in temps above 50°F for best results.
-
Stubborn Bubbles? Most small bubbles will disappear as the film dries.
